I was just thinking about nicknames... I've had mine since high school... (Johno) Anyone else have a nickname that's lasted as long as mine? 20 years?
I think I received mine by default by hanging out with a guy named Dean... We called him Deano. Together Deano and I had a DJ group with two other high school friends, Darryl and Jeff. Darrylo and Jeffo didn't really click, but Deano and Johno somehow did. I kind of wish it had more of a story. Something with flair.
So, when do you out grow them? Is it OK if you want to keep it? Would it be bad to have it on your tombstone?
Anyhow, I was just curious about others who have nicknames... What's yours and how did you get it?
btw, my wife doesn't call me johno, she calls me JT, and when I'm in trouble she calls me Johnathan Matthew.

I've had my nickname for more than 20 years, I just don't know how much longer than 20 years.
Mine is KK. Very simple and easily explained. Kara Kay is my name. There you have it! My dad also called me stinker, and then shortened that nick name to stink. And that was a pleasent one to explain to friends and boyfriends in high school. :) But I think I enjoy that one more than KK, but only my dad can get away with it. (so no trying :))
Anywho... as to your question about the tomb stone, you can really do whatever you want, cuz it's your tomb stone. But out of respect for my mom and dad, I think I will put the name that they gave me. And out of respect for Mr. Luke and his wonderful family, I will put his name as my last (Deal that is, not Luke)
Yeah, pretty much since birth...guessing I will never grow out of it...will most likely mark the stone.
My best friends in elementary & high school (and for some reason old men) called me "Kris", but no one did once I got to college. Some of the guys at Harding called me, "Krash", which I always secretly liked.
Unless you plan to buy it ahead of time, I'm not really sure that it's up to you what's on your tombstone, is it??
Now that I give it some more thought, is "johno" a real nickname? Does it count since it includes part of my name... I'm not so sure.
Kristi, I love the nickname, Krash. I think it could stick.
Wheels has been with me since 6th grade track because I was somewhat fast. After School I took up bicycling and it is still used today. As to how long I'm 46 and don't have a calculator. On my tomb stone...I don't care what it says as long as they tilt it up so I can read whats on it.

My friends in college called me G-ball. I was branded by mistake, because someone misheard my last name.
Nowadays, if I hear anyone call me that, I automatically know that it's one of a handful of guys, so it's a sort of code.
In grad school they started calling me GKB, which has stuck. It doesn't have the nostalgia of G-ball, but it's cool.
I will probably have to have GKB on my tombstone, because my full name would cost too much to engrave!
Are you Australian? I'd never heard that nickname until I went to Australia where every guy named john was called johno
Johno's not Australian, but he's been known to do a spot-on impression of the late Steve Irwin. Right, Johno?
